SUNDAY PICTURE SHOWS.
BANNED AT PETONE. Sunday picture shows are to bo banned in Polone. At its meeting, last evening the local Borough Council had before it an inquiry from tho Napier Council, as to whether Petono had not already frowned upon these Sunday shows, or been approached in that connection, as it (the Napier Council) had just ljeen presented with a largely-signed petition praying for the abolition of (ho Napier Sunday: shows. As the Petono Council had not previously dealt with the matter ns 0110 of general policy, one councillor got up and inowd that Sunday picture shows be forbidden. Someone demurred, lla did not believe in looking for trouble. "Better wait till they come at us before wo decide to stop them," he suggested. The Mayor also took that view, and thought'that a general rule—that the special permission of the council should first be obtained for Sunday showsmight be observed, as provided by the Act. However, the council divided on tho question, and tho majority decreed that the Sunday picture shows were not to bo allowed.
