BOARD OF STUDY.
FACILITIES FOR THE TRAINNG OF , MISSIONARIES. Tho first practical outcome of the Edinburgh Missionary Conference is tho formation of a Board of Study, consisting of ' representatives of various missionary societies, the Universities, and specialists in Oriental matters, who will provide facilities for tho more thorough training of missionaries of all denominations in tho languages, religions, and customs of the East. For sonic time the Edinburgh Conference International Continuation Committee has been considering the matter, and at a largely-attended meeting at the Bible House, London, tho formation of tho board was decided upon. The majority of tho missionary societies have already appointed delegates to represent them, and tho remainder are expected to follow suit. It will ho the -business of the Executive to advise candidates for tho mission field, and give information to training colleges as to tho curriculum, while it is anticipated that tho various missionary societies themselves will consult the board. The full scope of the hoard's work cannot be decided upon till it is known what steps the Government is taking with regard to tho foundation of a School of Oriental Studios similar to the institutions which already exist in France aud Germany. If such a school is started the board will be able to utilise much of tho instruction which would there ho given, and there would he no necessity to consider the formation of any separate centre for instruction.
