THE HUTT RAILWAY FATALITY.

. INQUEST CONCLUDED. ' The adjourned inquest touching the death of George Dennis Cronin, tho victim of last Saturday's railway fatality at Hutt, was concluded at Petono yesterday morning before Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M. Mr. Cracroft AVilson represented deceased's relatives. Three more witnesses wert called.' John Henry Pearson, fireman on tho engine on the train, corroborated tho statements of tho engine-driver (Petheric H. Jane). ' Francis David Mitchell, guard in charge of the train, was unabTo to givo evidence that would throw any light on tho matter.

William Richard Rowlands, passenger on the train, stated that ho had joined it at Moiling-Siding, and had remained on tho rear platform of tho last carriage. About holfway between -Moiling and the Hutt, ho had noticed that the carriage bumped, and, when tho train had passed .over, tho spot,.he observed what ho took to bo the body of a man. Ho informed the guard regarding what ho had seen. Witness did not see a man fall in front of tho train, and had not informed anyone to that effect. This was all the evidence tendered. The coroner returned tho following verdict: "That deceased came by his death by being accidentally killed through being run over by a train between McHi'ng and Lower 'Hutt, but there is no evidenco to show how deceased camo into contact with the train." A rider was added to the effect that no blame was attachable to the Railway Department or its employees.

SUDDEN DEATH. A baby, named Donald Lewis M'Gillivray, 16 months old, took suddenly ill on Thursday night and died yesterday morning at 12 Oxford Terrace An inquest will be held this morning before Dr. A. M'Arthur, City Coroner. SCALDED BY STEAM. Ono of tho covers of a boiler at the tramway power station lifted yesterday, and an employee, named James Hunter, was badly scalded by steam. The injured man was subsequently taken to tho hospital, where he is progressing as well as can bo expected. A man, named Harry Rowc, 30 years of age, was admitted to the hospital yesterday afternoon suffering from rather serious injuries, the result of being caught in tho shafting of machinery while following his occuDation.
