SOCIAL AND PERSONAL.

Miss Richmond's Play. Yesterday afternoon, at her home in Hobson Street, before a small but keenly interested gathering, Miss Alary Richmond read the manuscript of a play which she has written, and which is to be produced in the Opera' House at tho end of August for tho benefit of tho Richmond kindergartens. It is a fiveact play of one scene each, and is called "The Luck of the Mothcrlys," or "Sisters are Such ." Children, and all who love to lose themselves in the world of imagination, whore odd, Quaint, and irresponsible things happen, will find plenty of food for enjoyment in it. Tho scene of tho play is laid in Somerset, and a particularly clever touch is where tho brownies go into the village to buy groceries. The quaint Somerset dialect is faithfully given, and an old song of the Shire is sung—two things that are enough to make exiles from Somerset walk miles to listen to. The Suffragettes, too, are touched upon—lightlv certainly. It is owing to them that the father of tho family—a family of sixteen children—goes off; to the Antipodes, because, being a lover of ladies, he cannot hear to enforce the law upon them. The foundation of the play is really the love of the mother for her children, and that of the latter for their mother. t , There will be a great deal of singing and dancing introduced in the. play, and there promises to he no lack of variety about it. Miss Campbell is to train the dancers, and will introduce some particularly"efl'cctive. movements. Tho first rehearsal will probably take place next week, and there is no doubt that, tho event itself will be looked forward to with interest. Wellington cannot boast of many playwrights. , Firo Brigade Danes. .
