Although Jack Lester, the strong-man American boxer, was reported to be able to bend and twist big spike nails as if they were copper-wire and do other etrong-inan feats, ho was uuablc to break the Australian champion boxer "Bill" Lang in the contest which took place at the Sydney Stadium on Saturday night. A great crowd witnessed the match which proved inconclusive. Fivo torrid rounds were fought. Towards the close of the sixth round tho American, in delivering a heavy bodyblow, landed on Lang's feuding elbow. Sufl'cring pain from the blow, and with a hand partially cripplud, Lester turned his back on Lang and started to walk to tho middlo 6f the ring. Lang followed and was preparing to deliver a blow when tho American dropped on hie lmce. Tho referee ("Snowy" Baker) thereupon disqualified Lester for dropping without receiving a blow, and proclaimed Lang tho victor. Lester showed himself a willing, pun-' ishing Qghter, but was lacking in skill, Lang outpointing him in every round. A medical man, who cxamiued Lester, stated that the blow he had delivered on Long's fending elbow had driven, the circumflex nerve, Jiear tho shoulder, against the bone causing intense rjain. '■' Lester protested ignorance of the rule which lost him the fight. In America, Iμ said, they ivero allowed to do as lie had done, lie is keen on another match. Lester, who is a young giant of about 13st. 71b. trained, is only 20 years of age, and in the event ot being able to beat Lang was looked upon as one who would set out to try and get tho world's championship from Johnson. In private life he is John Jubeck, and he is a native of Michigan. He started his career driving an engine and later studied electricity, so as to become'an electrical engineer. Ho fought first in November, 1008. Previous to Saturday's fight he had had about 20 battles— U of them knockouts—and most not lasting more than three rounds. "Tommy , , , Burns took the young American in hand about five or six months ago and has full charge of him with a 10 years' contract.
