MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL.

. —,>— A meeting of. the Makara County Council was held on i'riday morning, there being present: Councillors U. Monk (chairman), Hegarty, Bryant, iloore, iiashvoud, aud iiawmns. The Wellington Meat Export Company were granted a renewal ol their slaughterhouse licenses at Ngahauranga, and Mr. -J. (j. W-ilkes was also granted a renewal of a similar license at Taiva i'Mat. it was resolved to inform Messrs. Liddlo Bros., of Jolinsonville, that. they, must keep .their sheep off the County road, otherwise proceedings would be taken. Tho ranger and pound-keeper wore instructed to report all cases in which cattle are driven on the county roads without a leader. It was decided to draw the attention of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to the state of the drains at. the police station, Johnsonville, those at the l'orirua Hotel, and also the railway cottages at Tawa Flat. A letter was received from the . New Zealand Candle Company asking under what conditions permits were granted to use steam traction on the Gorge Eoad. —It was resolved to inform the company that no such perjniits were issued, as their issue would be contrary to (ho by-laws. ■ A petition was received from residents of Titahi Bay calling the council's attention to the state of the Titahi Bay Boad. —It was resolved , to instruct the roadman to carry out improvements to the value of .£lO. Mr. .T. P. Luke attended, and e>jplaiued that he had interviewed the Minister for Public AVorks with regard to securing a grant for the improvement of the Ngahauranga Gorge Road. I He. recommended the council to confer with other local bodies interested, and Id form-u deputation to wait upon the Minister. • A motion was accordingly pa'sseel, resolvhiK that tho council invite the' Mayor of-Wellington, and delegates from the adjacent local authorities interested in widening the road, to meet it in conference on Friday, May 20.
