MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

A young man, named Arthur Thomas,.was charged with breaking and entering the dwelling of George Brownlee, on Jlay 12, with intent to commit a crime. On the applicatiwi of Sub-Inspector Sheehan, accused was remanded until Wednesday next. ... George Rhodes pleaded guilty to a chargn of stealing a bicycle on Hay !>, valued at-<£'t Ms.,-the property of Joseph Perry. Accused'.was remanded for sentence until Wednesday next to allow of certain inquiries boinj made. A man, named Joseph Beveridgo, admitted paternity of an illegitimate child, and was ordered to pay "s. per week towards its support, together with £S Gs. accouchement expense?, and .£2 2s. solicitor's fee. Defendant was also ordered to find security tor the payment of- the amounts, in the sum of £60, and one surety of .£OO, or two of ,£3O each. .Mr. A. Dunn appeared for complainant. Kato Sweeney pleaded guilty to n charge of. drunkenness, and ta a further charge of procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. On the fir.4 charged she was sentenced to 21 days' imprisonment, and, on tho second, she was convicted and discharged. Similar charges were preferred against Kate Wilson, alias Bethune, who received a similar sentence. Three, first-offending inebriates, who did not appear, were ordered to forfeit their bail (10s.- each), or to undergo 2-t hours* imprisonment. Another first offender was fined 55., with, the usual alternative; and still another (a female) was convicted and discharged.
