In New South Wales'the voting on tho Befercnda proposals for the amendment of. tho Constitution, was 41 per centum of three on the roll and in Victoria 59 per centum, the proportion in New South Wales being lower Ihnn in any of the other States, and in Victoria higher. The Missions. to Seamen is passing through rather a trying time' in consequence of its missioncr, Mr. J. Moore, having been laid aside for the past seven weeks owing to a sovero nervous breakdown from, overwork. When ho began lite work in this city thirteen years ago ho was without quarters for tho men to meet in. Tho mission had to move its quarters no fewer than 20 times. Then came the gift of Mrs. M. A. Williams of tho ground, church, and institute for the seamen. Hero tho work has gone on for seven years. Now Mr. Moore's medical adviser' has ordered him to take n furlough (the first in thirteen years) if lie is to be saved from permanent collapse. Tho committee, London and local, have granted permission, and Mr. and Mrs. Moore will leave shortly for Homo. Mr. Mooro states that at no timo in all these years has tho institution's balancobeen on the wrong side of tho sheet, and that as he is anxious that tho actingmissioner should not bo hampered at tho start, he (Mr. Moore) would bo grateful if those interested in work among seamen would help him by sending donations to enable him to payoff a debt for gas, etc., that has accrued during his illness. Donations may bo sent direct to tho missioner, the 'lion, treasurer, Mr. F. W. Kuthorfurd, or any member of the committee. GRAMOPHONES.
