His Excellency tho Governor, Lord Islington, has accepted tho offices of patron of the New Zealand Competitions Society.
To-day the Hon. J. Carroll, the Hon. J. A. Millar, and the. Hon. T. Mackenzie will be in Wellington, the Hon. D. Buddo en route to Southland, the Hon. G. Fowlds in Auckland, tho Hon. K. M'Kenzie in tho Upper Rangitikei district, and the Hon. T. Ngata will Ijo proceeding to Wellington from tho East Coast.
The Minister for Agriculture (tho Hon. T. Mackenzie) is confined to his room with a severe, cold.
The Hon. R. M'Konzio (Minister for Public Works) is expected back in WcllintS't;o.n,o.ibMoi)dp'y. Ho has been making aii extensive tour of the Tarannki district, and has also traversed tho heavy country between Stratford and Ohakune. He is now visiting some of the portions of the Tanmarunui electorate in company with Mr. W. T. Jennings, its Parliamentary representative.
Tiic Hon. D. Buddo (Acting-Minister for Lands) wont south last evening. He goes to Southland in connection with certain land matters, and returns to his electorate early in tho week, where ho will be consulted by the Ashley County Council on local lx>dy affairs. Ho will ten days.
Mr. Jas. Trevor lias been elected chairman of the By-Laws Committee of the City Council.

Mr. H. P. Muller, manager of the Pnlmerston North Opera House, who has been on a holiday visit to Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide, returned to Palmerston yesterday, having had a very enjoyable time. Mr. H. Palmer, another Palmerston resident who went away with Mr. Muller, is at present in West Australia. Ho is expocted back in about a fortnight.
Mr. James Hazlett, stage manager of "The Whip" Company, has arrived in Wellington to make arrangements for tho staging of the drama,
M. Eugene Ossipoff, tho Russian singer, and his accompanist, Miss H«neo Lees, left for Sydney by tho Warrimoo yesterday, after a four months' sojourn in New Zealand.

Mr. Frank L. Haszard, who was mentioned jn the cables as haying retired from the Premiership of Prince Edward Island, is a first cousin of Mr. S. I , '. Haszard, tho postmaster of Hastings, who was born in Prince Edward Island.
Mr. and Mrs. John Duncan, of Wellington, left for Sydney by tho Warri moo yesterday. ,
A well-known and much-respected settler of Ashhurst, Mr. A. Lacey, died at the Palmcrston Hospital on Thursday. Deceased, who was aged 48, waa born in Devonshire, and had resided in Now Zealand for 37 years. Ho married Miss Birkenshaw, sister of Mr. T. Birkenshaw, of Palmcrston, and leaves a widow, two sons, and two daughters to mourn their loss. Deceased, who waa a son of Mr. R. Laeey, a naval veteran whoso career, lias been referred to by many New Zealand papers of lato years, was a prominent Forester, and members of Court Manawatu, A.0.F., and members of, the Order will attend the funeral.
Miss Grace Palotta, loading lady of tho Hugh Ward Company, who is en route to her home in Vienna, and Mr. W. A. Low, manager for Mr. Ward! were passengers for Sydney yesterday by tho Warrimoo.
Mr. J. S. Plumincr, who was appointed at Tuesday's meeting of tho Auckland Harbour Board to complete the survey of the Waitemata Harbour, commenced and nearly finished by Lieutenant Jackson, of H.M.S. Fantomo, bolongs to the mercantile marine,.and is well known on the coast of New Zealand. He has sailed under tho New Zealand Shipping Company's, flag in the capacity of chief officer for several years. Mr. Plummor holds a master mariner's certificate, and is regarded as one of tho most competent men who could be found to carry out this work.
