The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's autumn meeting was held to-day in ' beautiful weather. Despite tho two postponements the attendance was large. As tho result of the recent rains the course was a trifle on the giow side, but the going improved wonderfully with a drying wind though fast times were out of the question. Large fields wore the order of the day, and speculation on the totalisator was brisk. The investments totalled £10,717 against £6631 10s. for tho first day of . the 'autumn meeting last year, an increase of. £4805 10s. Fort AVilliam had plenty in reserve, and ran home a comfortablo winner by three lengths, tho same distance separating the second and third. Separator was fourth, and To Puia fifth. Reumac was first out, but fell at tho first hurdle. Corazon and AVhakaweira then took up tho running. Longner fell at the hurdlo at the top of the straight. Corazon and AVhakaweira ran" together all the way up the back stretch, but before the straight i was reached Hoanga had joined in. At the last hurdle AVhakaweira and Hoanga were level, but a faulty jump by the former nearly proved disastrous, but his jockey, Flj-nn, worked his way back into tho saddle, but not beforo Hoanga had a few lengths' lead. A desperate raco hoino ended in favour of AVhakaweira by a head, Corazon being a bad third. Time, 3min. 26sec.
