Society for Protection of Women.

. The fortnightly meeting of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children was held yesterday, Mrs. A. It. Atkinson presiding. There, were also present Mesdamcs 'Ponsonby, \V A J'Jyans, and A. A. Corriga'n. A number pi- cases were dealt with, including alleged cruelty and neglect of children, and several were held over for investigation. Mrs. J. Pollock, who has been seriously ill during the past few months, is now satisfactorily progressing towards health. Miss Olga Von Stunner (Auckland) is at present her guest. .

Tho marriage of Mr. G. E. Keith, of Tokomaru Bay, to Miss Ada Blanche Clapshaw, younger daughter of Mr. J.' F. Clapshaw, retired army officer, Hoyal Fusiliers, and of the Commonwealthpermanent military staff, now clerk of tho revenue staff, tramway department,, and Mrs. Clapshaw, Tho'Terrace, Wellington, will take place on Thursday, June 1, at St. Peter's Anglican Church.

Mrs. H. B. Bridge, who has : been visiting friends in Hawera, returned to Wellington on Wednesday. Mrs. Rout and Jlrs. Ciillen passed through Wellington yesterday, on their return, to Nelson, after a six weeks' visit to Uuncdin, .

Mrs. C. L. Barnotfc has returned' to her home, St. John's Hill, Wanganui, after a farewell visit to her sister, Mrs. Cooper, in Wellington.

Miss M'Lean, principal of the Wellington Girls' College, is spending part of the-vacation inChristchurch. Later' slio intends visiting her brother in Uawke's Bay.

Miss Griffiths (one of the bridesmaids at Miss Elgar's wedding) is expected to arrive in Wellington to-day from Nelson..
