European colonics interpreting the concessions as a sign of weakuoM and tho lessening of British authority. '• ■ "The remedy," continued Sir Eldon Gorst, "is to teach Egyptians that wo don't intend to bo hustled into going furVhcr and faster along this path than wa deem well for tho people as a whole. Until this elementary lesson has beon,' thoroughly learned, no prospect of further developing tho Legislative Council! can usefully 1m entertained.
