Shncklcton has received promises in response (o his appeal' of valuable supplies for Dr. Mawson's Antarctic expedition equipment. Lieutenant Hugh Watkins, of the Essex Regiment, will, be the pilot of Dr. Mawson's monoplane, which is being manufactured; by Vickers, Sous, and Maxim. The ;rijophinc mil have a screen to protect and passengers from the cold.

The monoplane will be employed in mopping and surveying. It will take at the southernmost depot sufficient petrol for a single flight to the Polo and return to the depot—namely, 250 miles.
