THE "HON. RODDY" NUGGET.
READY FOR THE KING. A handsome and elaborate pedestal hafl been made for the "Honourable Roddy"nugget, which the Now Zealand Government purchased the other day for. a Coronation gift to King George. Resting upon four massive silver olaw-fect is a heavily silver-mounted base of choice New Zealand "totara knot" wood, the silver frame of which leads up to a miniature wall. Doyoml lies a of gold, upon which tour pieces of New Zealand greenstone rest in gold mounts. On each of the four sides at tho cornerrise up rich specimens of gold quartz from Coromai'.dol, with one surface poli-h. Ed to show I lie veins of gold. From tho centre rises a massive, and solid reek of silver, with the solid silver figure of ;i miner standing at one end, and a. unique specimen of quartz at the other. On the loti of'tho rock'is the. "Honourable Roddy nugget. Fixed to the front of the silver rock is a gold plate, surmounted with the Imperial Crown, carved in gold, and on the plate is engraven the Imperial cypher, "CJ.1.K.." and the words "From the Government and people of. New Zealand, mil." The trophy is -About thirteen inches high, and the base, measures ninctren inches by fifteen inches. The iveieht of the migaet is lIDoj, 12dwt., and it is valued at j.'420. The silver used weighs about fiOOoz. Tho iteiire of tho minor was modelled bv Jlr, Ellis, of tho Wellington Technical School, who also (issisned the rock, the figure, and the feet of the stand. The remainder of the work was carried out in the workshop of Mew. LiHlcjolm and Son, and it will be shewn in their window, Lamb, ton Quay, until about 2 o'clock to-day.
