ADDINGTOX MARKET. ■ (By Telecraph.-Press Association.) • Christchurch, May 10. At Addmgton live stock market there was a largo entry of stock and a good attendance. Fat cattle sold at tho previous week's rates. Store sheep and fat lambs were much firmar. Fat sheep sold well notwithstanding an exceptionally large entry. Store cattle and pigs were dull of sale, but dairy cows were in active demand. There was a further decline in the numbers of store sheep yarded, and there was an improved demand for all classes. Ewes formed the principal portion of the entry, mostly of a moderate quality, the balance being made itn of inferior to good lambs and a few lots of wethers. The competition of several South Canterbury buyers assisted to improve tho tone of the market, and the Ealo w.ps , brisk throughout. The demand was chiefly for young and soundmoutucd ewes, and prices for those wore better by Is. to Is. 3d. per head, compared with the previous week. Lambs also improved in price to tho extent o£ 9d. per head, while goad wethers were firm at late rates. The range of prices was: Two-tooth ewes, 12s. to 12s. Jd.; small halfbreds, 11s. 3d ; two, four, and six-tooths, 10s. to lCs. 3d.: four, rix, and eight tooths. 11s.; soundmouth, Bs. 6d. to 10s. 6d.; full to failingmouth, ss. 6(1. to 7s. Gd.; culls and aged, 3s. to 5-f.; medium larahs. 7s. to Bs.; others. 6s. 6d. to 6s. 6d.; half bred (ewes), 12s. 6d.; crossbred (ewes), 95.; culls, 4s. 9d.; medium wethers, 11s. to 11s. 6d.

The yarding of fat lambs totalled 7159, or about the Eauie as last week, of very mi»d quality, ranging from prime down to inferior. Included in the "entry were several pens of show lambs from liangiora, which sold at 16s. 6d. to 19s. The sa!o was a brisk one, and prices showed an appreciable advance on late rates. The risa was due to, cable advice of a ri=e in wool, and the coming in of the winter freezing rates and freights. There were 6556 taken for freezing at 9s. to 16s. 7d., and ono pen at 18s. Id.; 216 by butchers, at 10s. 6d. to 15s. <d., and extra to 155.; and 127 were passed at Us. Id. to 13s. .Id.

The yarding of fat sheep was a very large one, anu the quality was on tljo average better than or late, there not being such .a large proportion of old and unfinished ewes. The bulk of the entry, consisted, however, of ewes, wethers again being in short supply. The murket opened well, tne West Coast buyer's operations assisting to lirm the market. Alter !;o had completed his purchases the market fell back to last week's level of prices, though the sale continued fairly brisk, especi-illy for good wethers and for ewes above lis. per head in value. Old and unfinished' ewes were more difficult to dispose of. Owing to the very large entry, the sale was not over till a late hour. There was a good demand for export in consequence of the winter freezing rates being-now in, and notice having been given that after the end of the month ewes will have to bo sold with a guarantee that they are not in lamb. The range oi' prices was: Prime wethers, 16s. 6d. to 21s. 6a.; extra, 235. 9d.; lighter, 13s. to 165.; prime ewes, 13s. 6d. to lYs. lCd.; medium. lis. to 135.; aged and light, ss. 9cl. to 10s. 6d.; prime merino wethers, 14s. 9d. to 17s. There were 324 head of fat cattle penned of generally good quality, and .including several lots of very prime heavy bullocks. There was a steady demand throughout, and tho late prices were well maintained. Steers made £7 15s. to £11 2s. 6d.; extra, £13 to £14 10s. and £15 55.; heifers, £5 7s. 6d. to £8 10s.; cows, £5 to £10 IDs. (equal to 295. for prime, 225. to 235. 6d. for medium, and 2is. to 21s 6d. for cow and inferior per 1001b.). Veal calvers made 4s. 6d. to 555„ and extra to £4 155., there being a number -or wellgrown animals offered. Gd. to £4 55.; two-year heifers. £3 10s.; three-year heifers, £3 19s. to £4 155.; and dry cqws, 2Cs. to £4 ss. Dairy rows were in keen demand, at £3 10s. to £10, and extra to £12. There was a fair entry of all classes of pigs, and at the opening of the sale fats sold well, but as it advanced the demand fell off considerably. Choppers made up to 705.; heavy baeoners. 5Cs. to 555.; and smaller, 355. to 475. Gd (equal to 4d. per lb.); large porkers, 275. to 325.; and lighter, 225. to 255. (equal to 4'd. to 4Sd. per lb.). There was a good denmnd for store piys, medium sorts making 15s. to 205.; smaller, 7s. to "12s. 6d.; and weaners, Is. £il. to 6s. and 7s.
