RECIPROCITY.
£ CANADA AND GERMANY. By Telesraph—Press Association-Copyriziit London, May 8. The "Standard's" Berlin correspondent says an understanding has been arrived at between Canada and Germany for negotiations for a Reciprocal Commercial Treaty after tho Canadian-American one has been concluded. In March of last year a new tariff agreement was concluded between Germany and Canada. The Canadian surtax on German goods, imposed during the tariff war, was abolished, and the way paved for a general convention with Germany "at a time that niay be found mutually convenient." The tariff war, it will be remembered, was caused by German objections to the granting of preference by Canada to the Mother Country. THE REPORT DENIED. ■ (Rec. May 10,- 0.5 a.m.) Ottawa, May 9. Mr. Fielding, Minister for Finance, has denied the press reports published in London to tho effect that Germany is negotiating with Canada for a ; reciprocal trade agreement. Mr. Borden, Leader of the Opposition, is to tour the prairie provinces on the anti-reciprocity issue during the summer months. There are indications that a general election will I*o held in the autumn. 3lr. Fielding declares that pressure from London induced Sir Wilfrid Laurier to adi joarn Parliament in order to attend the Imperial Conference. AMERICAN TARIFF BILL CARRIED. (Rec. May 10, 0.5 a.m.) Washington, May 9, ' The House of Representatives has carried tho Free List Bill without amendments by 236 to 109 votes. All the Democrats and ,29 Republican members supported the Bill.
