PIECEWORK OR DAY LABOUR.
» STRIKE AT HASTINGS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Hastings, May 8. Sixty men employed on sewer excavations struck work this afternoon. The work was being cone on the piecework system, but the Borough Council resolved to have the balance done by day labour, the rate of pay to bo 9s. for men in tho trench and Bs. for surfacemen. When informed of the decision the workers put on their coats and refused to resume unless reinstated on tho piecework system or paid at tho rate of 10s. por day for trench and 9s for surface.
