$ (By TclesrauU.-SDecial CorrcErouaecU Wanganui, May G. Tho taking of evidence by the Wanganui Bridge Commission has concluded, and Jlr. .Short, tho commissioner, will forward his recommendations to tho Governor as soon as possible. AYhat direction they will take, however, he has not indicated beyond saying that ha considers that tho Waimariuo County Council has no case to answer. As previously slated, the Bangitikei County Council was struck out of tho proceedings. The Rev. Father Barra, who has been transferred to Wellington, was fnrowellcd yesterday by the pupils of the Jlarist Dros. School and presented with an address and a volume of poems. A Wanrjanui Borough Council deputation waited on the Harbour Board last night, and asked that body to supply stone from its quarry to enable the protection of the river bank at 'iaylorville to bo proceeded with without delay. This matter has been neglected for years and each successive flood has mado such encroachment as to endanger, not only the road and houses, but also tho bridge, and a largo amount of valuable Government and Harbour Board property. The board has referred the matter to its Works Committee and has instructed the engineer to report at once on the feasibility of supplying the necessary stone without interfering with the progress of tha harbour works.
