As Wellington is about 1000 miles from that lino about half of the sun will be covered here. The time will bo between 7.30 and 9.30 a.m. The eclipse can bo observed m tho round spots of light admitted through chinks in a blind and falling on the opposite wall. For preference a small ho e, not half an inch in diameter, should be used, and the length of. tho beam from hole to spot should be as great as convenient. The beam can be lengtnened.by reflecting it in a mirror. Even tho usually round spots of light m tho shadow of a trcetop will show the bit clipped out of the sun. In smoking glass for direct observation, hold tlio glass aslant tho caudle flame.
