(By Ttlczrapli.-.Snccial Correspondent.! Palmarston, April 28. A meeting of the Palmerston High School Old Boys' Association was held last night, tho rector (Mr. J. E. Vernon) being in the chair. In tho annual report it was mentioned that tho cricket team had linished well up in the district championship, and that tho year had been a successful one. The bal-'hncC-sheet showed a credit of £4 lGs. 2d. The chairman referred to tho very satisfactory work which had been done at.the school during the year, and tho splendidly-equipped premises which they now possessed. A recommendation was carried to the effect that the time was now ripe when separate associations should be formed among old girls anil old boys, and it was decided to hold another meeting to discuss the matter, and also to elect officers. A sum of £20 was voted from the special fund to the High School Board of Governors. Mr. C. Moore, a resident of Taonui Street, Palmerston, had his leg broken at Eitzherbert on Wednesday through a cab and a trap colliding. Loyal Manawatu Lodge of Oddfellows, M.U., hold its usual meeting last night, Bio. W. AVoodroofe, N.G., presiding over a good attendance of members. Ono member was reinstated, and two candidates wero proposed. Several matters of importance wero dealt with, and, at_tho conclusion of tho business, a shooting competition was held, and won by Bro. Dilks. Mrs. Lethbridge, of Ecilding, will judge tho decorative classes at the Horticultural Show, to bo held here on Wednesday next. The monthly meeting of the Palmerston Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday, Mr. J. G. Wilson presiding. Correspondence was received from the Inspector-General, intimatthat the Department was prepared to issue a preparation in suitablo doses for the purpose of rendering nurses immune from typhoid fever, the matter being left in tho hands of the medical stair. Mr. \V. ltutherfurd wrote, resigning his position as treasurer, as ho did uot feel justified in accepting payment for the small amount of work performed. At the request of the board, however, Mr. Rutherfurd consented to act as honorary treasurer, on condition that ho had a voice in financial affairs. The chairman and secretary were appointed delegates to the Hospitals' Conference. Dr. Erengley waited on the board in reference to appointing an inspector for the hospital district. It was decided to appoint the present inspector, Mr. O'Brien, at a salary of £200 per tiii'mim,. with travelling allowance of £50.. Dr. Erengley stated that the Department would pay travelling expenses over this amount. It was decided to_ send a remit to tho Hospitals Conforenco objecting to tho present method of electing members of the board, and proposing that the old system be reverted ' to. Sister Davis,, who has been connected with tho institution for the past six years, resigned to take up the position of matron of tho .Government Hospital at Otir'a. There was a good deal of discussion on the matter'of tlio proposed Old.Men's Homo. The chairman said that he had been told by Dr.'Valintine that the cost would bo £100 per bed, the total cost of the institution being £3000, including £2000 for tho erection of tho building, and that it would require £000 per annum for cost of upkeep. Tlio treasurer had £-100 in hand, which had been subscribed by tho public. There was a further sum of £332, which had been contributed by the public for extensions to-tlio'"hospital. It.wasidccided to.apply the latter sum to-itlio-purclinso of a site for a home, and Messrs. J. A. Nash, L. I?.'Bryant, and Captain Hewitt were appointed to select a site.

There was'a largo attendance at the Technical School last, evening, tho purpose of the meeting being to form a now hookey club. Mrs. IL V. Burnard occupied tho chair. It was resolved to form a club, to be called tho Hineftioa. Ladies' Hockey Club, and tho following officers- were elected:—Patron, Mrs. Coombs;_ president, Mrs. C. E. Sutton; vice-presidents, Mcsdaines AY. 11. Collingwood, H. .V. Burnard, P. A. M'Hardy, 11. "Watt, D. E. Dustin, W. Bunting, J. C. Lane, J. P. Lines, and Collin sou,. sen.';. secretary, Miss Kenton; treasurer, Miss Ross: club captain, Miss Seeker; captain, Miss M. Siminonds; deputy-captain, Miss Irving; coach, Mr. A. Stanley. It was decided to enter two teams for the'Tive-a-sido tournament, and one for the Wednesday competitions.

At tho Police Court to-day, before Mr. A. D. Thompson, S.M., E. M'Crneken was fined £3 and costs for ill-treating a horse, the ehargo being laid by the local branch of the Socioty for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. William Blundell was fined 10s. and costs for driving a vehicle round a corner at a paco faster than a walking pace. Edward P. Levien and Harold Jam's were charged with allowing flaxmill refuse to he placed in the Oroua River, and also with depositing refuse on tho banks of tho river. Tho cases were heard together, evidence being given by a number of witnesses as to tho refuse getting into tho river and bringing on "snags." Judgment was reserved.'
