WELLINGTON RACING CLUB. ' AUTUMN MEETING.' TRACK WORK AT TRENTHAM. "' Tho Wellington Racing Club's autumn meeting opens at Trentliani to-day, and will.bo concluded to-morrow. Principal events to be decided to-day are tho North Island Challenge Stakes, the Thompson Handicap, and the Railway Handicap, ' and, to-morrow, the New Zealand St. Leger Stakes, the Autumn Handicap, and tho Suburban Handicap will attract attention. In the majority of tho events on to-day'a programme, good fields promise to go to the post, and some interesting racing may be looke'd for. Special train arrangements are advertised. Trains are to leave Te Aro Station for the racecourse at 10.20 a.m. and 10.55 a.m., and to leave Lambton Station for the racecourse at 10.4G a.m., 10.55 a.m, 11.5 a.m., and 1.5 p.m. • . Yesterday's : track work at Trontham was interesting enough, . and. it would have been more so but , for tho heavy rain which fell during the night, and again after breakfast. The whole of the work was done on tho outside of the course proper, : the going being holding. The Karamu two-year-old A.ltear was the first out, and ho dashed over five ' furlongs in lmin. 5 2-ssec, but had only a lightweight up. ■ • ■ Members of E. Cutts's team came next. Masterpiece beat Madam Madcap over five furlongs run. in lmin. 5 4-ssec. Sharpshooter took lmin. Bsec.. to iruu tho same distance. Laiiis easily beat Torbelle over a mile, covered in lmin. sfsec. Pierene, with C. Stratford up. finished two lengths in front of Orton (H. Gray) at the end of six furlongs, which occupied lmin. 18 2-ssec. Over the same distance Formby accounted for Woodiiey in ljnin. 21 2-ssec. ' The Porirua two-year-old Aloha and St. Petersburg finished together at the end of four furlongs, run in 53 2-ssec. Similar time was recorded by Bourrasque, who beat Flingot over tho same distance. Danube, Direcioire, and -Vice-Admiral . jumped off together at the lnilo post. After going five furlongs Vice-Admiral was eased off. . Danube easily accounted for Direotoire, running the mile in lmin. 47 3-ssec.—an attractive performance, all things considered. Khamsin beat Mazurka over five- furlongs, covered' in lmin. 4sec. ,_, ' Sunburnt; with Gray up, accounted for Bandeira over six furlongs, in the excellent tir.io of lmin. 17 Msec. This was the best gallop of the morning. Bootlo finished badly at the end of five furlongs, run in lmin. ssec Ho did not' appear to bo at homo in the going. Equitas' (alone) ran six furlongs in lmin. 18 '4-ssec, and was apparently doing her best. Icel easily accounted for Septimus:.it tho end of six furlongs, .run in lmin. 23sec, the latter taking fully a fecond longer and stopping to nothing at the finish. • Mira and Iranui finished together over nix furlongs, run in lmin. 19sec, tho last five-.taking lmin. s\l-ssec. As the grey colt carried W. Ryan, his •performance was a good one. Genius alono ran a mile in lmin: 52sec., but did not please by tho way he finished. Sea Queen registered as good a gallop as was witnessed over seven furlongs, ■which she covered comfortably in lmin. 33 2-ssec, finishing well. H. Watson, who will ride her in tho Thompson Handicap, was in the saddle. Boanerges, with A. Oliver "up, ran eevori furlongs in lmin. 33 3-ssec, being assisted over the last half-mile by Nyland (G. Price).' Nyland held him in the rim home, but the gallop was entirely satisfactory. . ' • Kilosteri easily beat Floater over six furlongs in lminv. 20 4-ssec.- Mulga Bill, Laidy. Volley, and another ran seven furlongs in lmin. 37sec. when the track was getting very heavy. Obsono, who did not relish the going, took lmin. 6sec. to run five furlongs. Bronze and Zealand both went well over five furlongs, run. in lmin. 6 4-ssec, and there was' nothing ■• between ■ them. at the. finish. ; Tumut ran- a furlong less ■< in i3sec. .' .....'■■ My Lawyer was all at sea in the heavy going, and took 56 4-ssec< to run four furlongs. The rain has probably spoilt his chance in tho Thompson Handicap, and it would be no surpriso if he were scratched. B, Deeley; lias been engaged to ride Sedition-in. the Avondale Handicap. Jockeys C. Price, E. Lowe, and F. Flynn arrived in. Wellington yesterday to ride at the Trentham meeting. The Auckland sportsman, Mr. D. M-'Leod, will be-among those present at the Wellington Racing Club's Autumn meeting. ■-, • ■■ ■ • .

F. E..Jones will ride Sharpshooter in the Thompson Handicap to-day, H. Gray will have the mount on ' Vice-Admiral, L. Wilson on Woodhey, H. Watson on Sea Queen, H. Young'on Gunboat, S. Meaghei , on Vibration, and J. M'Lean on Lady Moutoa. . . . . At a meeting of stewards of the Auckland Racing Club, held on Tuesday, C. Brown was fined" £5 for not fulfilling■an engagement to ride Gloy in the Tourist Handicap at the recent A.E.C. meeting. . . . . Mr. J. B. Reid,' who paid a visit to : Sydney to witness lady Medallist race at the Australian Jockey Club's Autumn > meeting, returned to New Zealand yes'terday. When Mr. Reid left Sydney lie 'had not heard of Lady Medallist's Vale, recently cabled. The fillies purchased by the Canterbury sportsman at the Randwick sales .arrived yesterday, and will all g\j to the stud. Among them are several that were bred in New Zealand and sent across to the sales. "HIGHDEN" HORSES SCRATCHED. The Wapping lodge quartet—Boanerges, Kilosteri, Nyland, and Bronze—were scratched by "My. Highden" last evening for all their engagements at the Wellington meeting. This step has been, taken oh account of tho death of a near relative of the owner. . Boanerges was one of the popular fancies fortho Thompson Handicap, and Bronze'was engaged ia the North Island Challenge Stakes. METROPOLITAN T.C. MEETING.
