Napier.—The Harbour Board election resolved itself into it fight between tho brcakwa'ter and .'the inner harbour patty, the latter winning all three Napier ,seats with J. J. Niven, W. J. Hastings.—As was expected, tho election for a Harbour Board representative resulted in au easy victory for the inner harbour advocate, Mr. Eustace Lane. Of all those returned to tho Napier Harbour Board there will bo no more enthusiastic or determined supporter of Mr. George Nelson's'scheme than Mr. Lane. The polling" was: Eustace Lane 1573, J. A. The election of members to represent Waimea County • on Nelson Harbour Board resulted in the return of Messrs, Best, Franklyn, and Macmahon.
THE HALF-HOLIDAY. ME. CAEEY SATISFIED. Mr. E. J. Carey, who was prominent ia the Saturday half-holiday agitation, that preceded the polling on Wednesday, said yesterday that ho considered the result "very satisfactory." "This is the first time," he added, "that the issue (Saturday or Wednesday) has been placed before, the electors in Wellington, and the public as a rule can be trusted to sticfc to that which is customary. The "Wednesday people opened a brisk counter agitation rat the eleventh hour, and spent a considerable amount of money in furtherance of the retention of the mid-week halfholiday. The cry about the danger of swapping horses in mid-stream—an allusion to the trade depression of the past two years—was made the most of. Yet, with it all, we came within measurable distance of the desired result. Compared with the results of polling in Cbii>tchurch and Dunedin two years ago, the ngur-es indicate a wonderful change in public opinion. Saturday supporters should now agitate for legislation compelling the observance of the Saturday half-holiday in the fonr main centres. In any case," concluded Mr. Carey, "the fact that over 7000 ■Wellington electors voted in favour of 'Saturday shows that the .idea of the univorsal Saturday half-holiday has made progress, and is gaining favour." • In an advertisement in this issue, Mr. 0.
