VARIOUS APPLICATIONS. EDUCATION LEASES. A mooting of the Wellington Land Board n-a.< held at the District Lands and Survey Office yesterday. Applications for laud were considered and dealt with as follow:— A letter from Messrs. Toswill and Ulrich, regarding the proposed sub-lease of Section 17, Block 5, Mount Cerberus, T. O. Gorman to A. R. Gillnnd, was received, and no action was taken at this juncture. Hr. Tansey attended with reference to Airs. F. M. Tansey's application for an additional area of flat land across the road on the north-east end of Section 4, Block 11, AVhirinaki, for a building site. — Report (0 be obtained. Mr. John Harvey, lessee of Section 2f), Block M, Torarua, applied for the freehold title.—lt was resolved to decline, as the conditions of the Act with regard to residence had not been complied with. Hiss G. SI. Guthrie applied to obtain the freehold title of Section 12, Block 16, Hantapu, and it was resolved to obtain a report from the Crown Lands Ranger. It was resolved to approve the freehold title of Section 5, Block 13, Ohinewainia, being issued to the selector, Mr. E. White. Mr. C. E. Wildbare attended, and asked that a better tenure than from year to ysar be granted him of Sections 55 to 59, Xireaha Village. The board to consider. TRANSFERS APPROVED. Section 15, Block 5, Hungarua, E. R. Mardonald to O. W. George; Section 7, Block 9, Hautapu, executor in estate of A. S. Collier to J. Graham; Section 18, rinrowhtmia Village Settlement, I' , . Sigglckow to O. E. James; Section 20, Block 11, Rangataua Town, W. M'Cready to E. P. Wooily; Section 11. Block 14, Oroua, A. J. M'Vicar to J. Evans; Section 4, Block S. Retaruke, H. Parsons to K. G. M'N. Barren. OTHER CASES. Mr. G. E. Shute, the selection of Section 2S (lots 5 and G), Taihape V.S.. applied to transfer the same to Mr. S. G. I'eyton.--.Aj>proved. Messrs. W. L. Grice and W. J. Trevena, lessees of Section 2, Block 3, Manganui, applied for permission to subdivide same into areas of 1059 and 8-18 acres, and transfer same to AV; J. Trevena and H. T. GricD respectively.—lt was resolved to recommend on the usual conditions and subject to the report of the Crown Lands Ranger being favourable.

I It was also resolved that there is no power to refund the payment of X2't 7s. 6(1. made in connection with the previous proposed transfer which was approved by the board in July, 1309. Mr. P. C. Smith, lessee of Section 48, Levin V.S., applied to subdivide and transfer 2 acres 2 roods to Mr. W. J. Kirk.—Resolved to obtain a report from (he Crown T.amls Ranger. /' Messrs. Bunny ,aiul Ayson. solicitors, Wellington, wrote, stating that they intended to appear, and ask for reconsideration of the transfer Hictgius to'Voelkerling of Section 21, Block 14, Manganui. —Previous decision to be adhered to. Mr. George Prime applied to transfer Section 73. Taihape V.S., to Mrs. N. M. Carson.—lt 'was resolved to approve. Mr. E; Stares applied to transfer Section 3, Block 1. Owhango Township, to Mr. F. Lovelock, junr.—lt was resolved to recommend for favourable consideration. _Mr. P.I. Jones applied to transfer Section o, Ohnkune V.S., to Mr. L. M'TCay applied to transfer Section 2, Block 3, Eewa, to Mr. John Hen-aorsqn.-Kesolvcd to approve on the usual conditions. Mr. H. J. Haggie applied to transfer Section 17, Taihape V.S., to Mr. C. E. Uilt, and it was resolved to approve. Mrs. M Woitzel applied to transfer Section 45, Horowhemia V.S., to Mr W U. Parke.—liesolved to approve on tho usual conditions. Mr. Parke also applied to transfer the section for the same consideration to Mr. W. G. Hancos, as, owing to tha recent death of his wife and other family reasons, she is unable to tako up the section.—Resolved to approve on the usual conditions. Mr. W. Hooks applied to sub-let Section 40, Manamii V.S., to Mr. i M Hart, and it was resolved to approve on ths usual conditions. With reference to the case of Mr. ,T £• Lacy, licensee of Section 1, Block XI, ivetaruko. postponed from Inst • meeting, the board decided that it could not make any concession, but would keep the case in view when considering tho question of legislation to help the Kaiteiki settlers. It was resolved to forfeit the interest of Mrs. C. Fisher, lessee of Sections 7 and 8, Ohakune V.S., as shu has not answered the board's notices. With regard to Mr. A. Barne's applica-tion-for about. 300 acres of Section S. Block I, Euahine. it was resolved that the board regretted it could not entertain the application.

It was resolved to recommend that Mr. G. C. 13. Harper be granted a permit to occupy Section sa, Block XIII, Maungakaretu, from year to year at such rental and on such conditions as the Comissioner may fix; sheep only to be grazed. It was resolved to approve of Section 3. Block X, Mount Cerberus, area about 3GI acres 0 roods 0.3 perches, being offered under Part 111 of the Land Act, 1(108, at the price of £6 10s. per acre, weighted with <£SS2 10s. Gd. for improvements to bo repaid hy instalments over a period of years under the usual table. It was resolved to approve of Mr. G. D. W. Priest's being granted a permit to occupy Section 73, Block VI, Makuri, from year to year at a. rent to be fixed by the Commissioner. Mr. Wm. Gillies, lessee of Section 17, Block I, TTmutoi, applied for exemption for tho balance of the term of his lease, as the climate did not snit him.—Hesolved to decline the request. Mr. J. M'Lean applied for exemption from residence for a time from Section 5, Block XII, Huangarua, on account of ill-health.—lt was resolved to grant him six months' time. . • It was resolved, at the request of the licensee, to forfeit Mrs. B. L. Orme's interest in Section 2. Block XII, Whirinaki, for non-compliance with the conditions of the Act. It was resolved fo forfeit Mr. .T. Cor■bett's interest in Section 15, Ohakune V.S., at his request, for failure to comply with the terms of his lease. With reference to tho non-residence of Mr. J. Kinnaird on Section t, Block VIII, Uangatnna Township, it was resolved The C'.L.R. reported that. .Miss H Punch was not residing on her section*, Hapfilii V.S., but was still living with lvr mother in the township.—lt was resolved to call upon her to show cause why her interest in the section .should not be declared forfeited. With regard to an application from Mr. E. ftnwson, lessee of Lots 2 and 3 Pukeroa Village, to bo allowed to select Lots 1 and fl adjoining, area 21 acres 2 roods 22 perches, it was resolved to recommend it under Section 203 (3) of tho Land Act. 1908, at a rent, of £1 Bs. per annum. With regard to an application from Mr. J. If. T. Shears to have his provisional license for throe years of Sections 56 and 28, Block 11, Hiimia, brickmaking site, converted into a lease for 21 years, it was resolved not to entertain it at present. The Commissioner reported that together with Messrs. Greyillo, district surveyor, and Amunson, limber expert, ho had visited and inspected the lands in the Awarua Block. He recommended that an area of 2111 acres, sub-divided into five sections, should be offered for disposal, and that the right to cut and remove the timber on an additional area of 917 acres in the same block be offered at tho same lime. The Commissioner further reported Hint the necessary surveys had been made and that the adjustment of quantities of timber and royalties on same were now Uias dealt with.-Rcsolvcd that tho 2111

acres be offered for settlement on optional conditions and the timber offered at auction. Colenso Kun, 2olfl acres.—The Commissioner reported that he had made an inspection of the above small grazing run, being Section 2, Block I, Ruahine. EDUCATION RESERVES. It was resolved that the Commissioner l« granted discretionary power in cases which he considers urgent, or which, in his opinion, it is desirable to deal wi"i promptly, to approve'.on behalf uf tinboard transfers (including statutory recommendations to the Minister), mortgages, tities, sub-leases, conversions of tenure, and any other dealings which, in the ordinary course require the approval ot the board; every such approval by the Commissioner to be reported to the board at its first subsequent meeting, this to apply to both Crown lands and educational reserves. n lt V , " 1 that the alteration to the- dwelling-house and proposed new buildings on Section 89. Block IV, Mikilniki. proposed by the lessee and recommended by the ranger, be approved. ■ihe Commissioner submitted a schedule of unlet education reserves and was authorised to take the necessary steps to deal with any of the sections which he may consider it expedient to apply for selection. The Commissioner was authorised to obtain a report and valuation, and take such other steps as maT be necessary to pienare a scheme of sub-division of Eduction Reserve, Section 12, Block XIII, Ivairanga, 'for sub-division to a future mooting of the board. It was decided to charge in respect of •education reserves, the fame foes as are charged on other lands administered bv the board in terms of Section 82 (d) of the Land Act, 1908. It was resolved to obtain a report from the C.L.R. as to accenting a surrender of Mr. A. A. Ower's lease of Section 5. Camnbolltowh (Wantranui), and granting him a new leaw fov the remainder of the term of his present lease.
