here it was decidcd unanimously_ 1 hat a public service, in connection with the tercentenary of the printing of the Authorised Version of the Bible, will be lield next Monday evening in. the Parish Hall. The liev. A. B. Chappell will deliver an address, "The History of the Version," and the Rev, A. S. lnnes Jones (Anglican), on "The Influence of the Bible." The Rev. G. Bticld (Presbyterian) is to preside, and the Rev. Mr. Sharp (Primitive Methodist) and Rev. Mr. Cule (Baptist), and Adjutant Hulquist (Salvation Army) will take part in the service. On Sunday special reference to this great tercentenary will be made in all the churches. Warm rains have been falling in the back country at intervals since Saturday, replenishing the water-tanks and doing a considerable amount of good to the crops and pastures. Members of the Feilding Cricket Club have formed a hockey combination, to lie known as the. United Hockey Club. Mr. L. A. Elliott (late of Wellington) wa9 appointed president. Mr. D. Eraser, captain; and Messrs. A. M. Onglcy and W. H. M'Lean, vice-presidents. Mr. Elliott was elected delegate to a proposed association, and was instructed to sunport the formation of an association affiliated with the New Zealand Association.

SHANNON. Dr. "Wall intends cutting up his property at Moutoa next season. On tlii; rifle range on Saturday lasti a competition was. held for ammunition prizes. The conditions were seven shots at 800 and 800 yards respectively. Rifleman Sutton was the winner, with a score of 51. Tho following were the other scores:—Rifleman J. Hallam, 18; 11. Sutton, 45; Shearman, 45; Woodmass, 41. In the evening in Stephenson's Hall Captain G. N T . Stephenson presented Rifleman H. Sutton with the club's silver cup, which he won this season. The induction ana ordination of the Rev. J. A. M'Koi'.zie took place on Wednesday at tho conclusion of the Presbytery meeting in Shannon. Among those who attended wore The sev. Mr: 31' Cully, Ttirakina; Rev. Mr. Budd, Feilding; Rev. Mr. Richardson, Levin; Rev. Mr. Doull, Palmerston North; and the Rev. Mr. Aitken, Foxtail. A concert and "social" will ho held in the Druids' Hall on May 1, when Jhe Rev. Mr. Compton, Anglican Church minister, will be given a farewell, and a welcome will be accorded to tho Rev. ('. Palmer, his successor. About 40 members attended the opening debate of the Literary Society on Tuesday evening. The Rev. J. A. M'Kcnzie was unanimously elected president of tho society. .The syllabus is'now in tho hands of the printers, and will bo ready before.next meeting, which will take tho form of a meeting of tho "Shannon Borough Council." The following are included in the council's personnel:— His Worship tho Mayor, Mr. W. Murdoch; town, clerk, Mr. J. H. E. Tilling; inspector of nuisances, Mr. W. Clayton; borough engineer, Mr. W. H. Gunning. The motion which came up for. debate at last; meeting was:—"That'literature is a 'greater educative influence than travel." Mr. Trainer took the affirmative, and was supported by Mr. E. J. Judd. Mr. A. seconded by Mr. C. F. Exall, advocated the claims of travel. Other'speakers' who took part were:— Messrs. Gardiner, M'Mjllan, Clayton, Barclay, and W. H. Gunning. On a vote being taken, the claims'of travel were affirmed ' by. a .'■ large majoritySeveral new memljcrs were elected. Tho local society, is waiting for replies from Palmerston North, Koputarua, and other kindred associations in connection with the proposal to form a debating union on this coast. The Levin Y.M.C.A. have already signified their intention to support the. scheme and, should the union be constituted, a team from Otaki will also compete..
