Tho census returns for tho borough of Waiiganui, including tho recentlyannexed suburbs of Arainolio, St. John's Hill, and Durintown, show that the population is 10,030, against 9524 for tho same area in 1006. The population of Wanganui East is 1735, Gonville 1554, Cnstlecliff 630, all showing pood increases. The population of "Greater Wangmiui" is thus 14)852, as against 11,221 five years ago. Great interest is being •taken in tomorrow's elections, though tho municipal contests are quite overshadowed by that for the Harbour Hoard. In tho latter tho situation has been, complicated at the eleventh hour by tlm withdrawal of Mr. A. Ha trick from tho compromise bo effected with tho old members of the board, to tho effect that ho would support their scheme of a harbour at' CastleclilT if they would get a report on tho cost of a harbour in town, and agreo to construct tho Mine if it would not cost over £300,000. Ho now asks the electors to • ehoqso between his scheme and that of tile old members.
