SCHOOL PICNICS.
I HEADMASTER CONDEMNS THEM
"There is too much of the cry, 'What can we do for the children? , and too little of the appeal to children to sacrifice their own pleasure for the sake of Others,, observed one of the city headmasters (Mr. G. Flux, of South Wellington), at his householders' meeting last evening. "It is my own opinion, formed from long experience, that the money sppnt oh picnics would bo expended to much greater advantage, and givo much more permanent pleasure and profit to tno children, if it were spent on libraries, tennis courts, and the like To spend £.30 to £40 on one day's pleasure while all the time tho school is lacking in much that is necessary to make it an efficient institution, appears to me to be little short of foolishness."
