. . & (HONOURING MR. S. R. LANCASTER. fl'rjin Our Own Correspondent.) Palmorston, April 22.. The Aokautore Hall was crowded [last evening, when a complimentary "social" was accorded Mi\ S. R. Lancaster by set- , tiers, of the district in recognition • of the many services which he had rendered them, more 'particularly in placing ■ his property at their disposal for sports and other gatherings, and in providing a short-cut to Palmerston, so that the long journey round by road is obviated. Mr. L. R. Bryant presided, and in presenting Mr. Lancaster with an illuminated address, signed by the whole of the settlers of tho. district, stated that they all deeply appreciated the thoughtfulness and kindness which Mr. Lancaster had extended to • them in so many ways. A dance wa's' held and a number of vocal items rendered, a most enjoyable evening being spent. ' There was a large attendance at the wel- , come "social" to the Rev. Mr. Roscher, the new vicar of All Saints' Church, last night, amdng those present being Mrs. G. M. Snelson and Mr. James Green, the only remaining members of the congregation who were present when the founda-tion-stone of All Saints' Church was laid by Mrs. Snelson in 1873. Mr. Kenneth Wilson presided, and extended a hearty welcome to the new vicar. The Rev. Mr. Roscher, in replying, said that ho had felt some diffidence in coming to the Dominion, but he had been made so heartily welcome that he was glad now that he had come out, and ho did not feel a stranger to them at all. . Supper was provided by members of the Ladies' Guild, and vocal item. , ; wore contributed by the Misses Drew. Messrs. C.-G. Keoble, J. Rogers, and the Rev. Mr. Roscher. A dance followed, .the music being contributed by Misses Watson, Drew, .and Park. The annual meeting of the Palmerston Gun Club was held last night, Mr. Gso.' M'Donald, president, in the chair. ■ The following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr. D. Buick, M.P.; president,-Mr. V. H. Stockwell; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. H. Hankins, 11. W. Scott, and J. Robertson; committee, Moi.srs. .Bycroft, Stubbs, Bell. Adams, Mansi'ord, Just, Stockwell, and Mortonsen; secretary and treasurer, Mr Walter Turner. Ten new members wore elected. The trophies won dtirinj: the past season were presented by the president, who also presented the secretary (Mr. Turner) with a valuable piece of plato as a mark of esteem and appreciation of the members for his sen-ices to tho club.. . Candidates selected by the Citizens' league to contest the borouph election addressed the ratepayers at the Municipal Hall Inst night, when there was a attendance. Each gave a frn minutes' epecch on. borough matters. Tlio Mayor presided, and the president of the league (Mr. R. S. Abrnlnm) was <iko present. 'At the conclusion of the addresses the r.indidnte* had to face a number of questions, which were apparently answered fatisf.ictnrily. A vote of thanks was accorded .the speakers at the conclusion of the meeting.
