PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Special Correspondent.) Palmerston, April 19. The Citizens' League met last night, tho president (Mr. E. S. Abraham) being in the chair. Arrangements were made for the members of the league's "ticket" to address the ratepayers on Friday evcniii" at the Municipal Hall, and at Terrace End on Monday evening. The election promises to be the most interesting that lias been held for years. . . On Wednesday next the Manaivatu Amateur Athletic Club has arranged to hold a five-mile road race. The contest is a handicap one,. and 'ike course will bo through various streets of tlio 'borough. The Manawatu Hockey Association will hold its annual five a-side tournament on May 3, when there will also bo various other competitions, including an open contest for goal-shootiug, for which a trophy has been donated by Mr. H. K. Swallow. Mr. R. S. Abraham has given the following notice of motion for the meeting of the general committee of tho Manawatu A. and P. Association on Tuesday next:—That a committee be set up to consider and report on the advisability of altering the rules in the wny of allocating a certain number of seats on tho committee to tho Fcilding, Levin, Woodville, Dannevirke, and Pahiatua Associations, who shall elect their representatives annually. Dr. Elizabeth Gunn gave an interesting address to women at the Municipal Hail yesterday afternoon, under the auspices of the W.C.I.U. The president (Mrs. H. Mowloiu) occupied the chair. After the lecture, which dealt with tho privileges and responsibilities of motherhood, there was an interesting discussion on the subjects spoken on by Dr. Gunu. Several musical items wore given during tho afternoon. Tlio Manawatu Football Association is endeavouring to arrange matches with representative teams from Wellington to piav at Palmerston during Dairy Show week.
