AN ORANGE MANIFESTO.
CONFERENCE AT CHRISTCHURCH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) * Christchurch, April 17. Officers and delegates of the Loyal Orange Institution of New Zealand met in the Orange Hall on Saturday morning. Sixty-sir. districts wore represented, and about 2HO delegates and visitors were present. The following manifesto was unanimously agreed to by delegates and members of tho Loyal Orange Institution: — (1) The continuance of our unwavering support to the public system of education which has now brai established with such splendid results for about 31 years, and stiail l)o the only system supported out of tho public Treasury. ' (2) Tho maintenance of tile British connection and tho support of any movement which tends to make closer and more binding the relations between the Dominion and the Mother Country. (;i) The encouragement of suitable emigration o£ _ouv kith and kiu from the United Kingdom, oversea Dominions, North. America, and Northern Europe. (1) The public inspection of all institutions under the control pf any religious denominations which receive aid in any way from the public Treasury, either by direct grant or rebate of taxes, and that the financial books and all other records of these institutions bo inspected by public auditors at any time. (o) The public inspection of all nunneries, convents, monasteries, church schools, academies, or other similar institutions, and that all teachers in the institutions be compelled to hold Government certificates of competency. (6) The full recognition in the Dominion of npirriages performed by a qualified clergyman or other persons vested by the law with that power. (7) That each primary lodge appoint- a committee to see that every, member is on the voters' list for local, civic and Parliamentary elections. (8) That the Grand Executive be appointed a standing committee on legislation ill the Dominion, to confer with like committees on matters affecting the Orange Institution in particular and tho Dominion generally. Hallighon, Christchurch; Junior Deacon, Bro. 11. K. Stephens] Dunedin; Inside Tyler, Bro. A. Noble, Invercargill; Outside Tyler, Bro. Davidson Hastings; committee, Bros. Middleton! Fiddes, Sneddon, Hunter, and Dickison; executive committee, Bros. R. P. Smith (Auckland). Kaye (Timaru). Bruce (Dunedin). Lead ley (Ashburton), Hay (Timaru) • auditors, E. Barlow (Dunedin)', W. It was decided that the next meeting of the lodge should be held at PalmerMon North.
