TWO LABOUR FEDERATIONS.
AMALGAMATION DESIRED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association,) Christchurch, April 17. The question of the amalgamation of the two federations of labour at present existing in the Dominion—the New Zealand Federation of labour (registered), commonly referred to as the Miners' Federation, and the New Zealand Trades and Labour Council's Federation of Labourwas at,, i^me,.taij£t| h by the Trades; arid]' Labour' Conference to-day. Air. K, Broen (Otago) moved: "That the conference 'be requested to make a further effort to brius about an amalgamation of the two federations of labour." After a long discussion, the opinions of the speakers being in favour oi the proposal, the motion was agreed to unanimously. It was decided to telegraph to the secretary of the Miners' Federation and ask that a conference should be held as early as possible for the purpose of bringing about amalgamation. Air. .Af'Laren gave notice to move: "That a committee be set up to go into the matter and report on the basis of amalgamation."
