❖ (Before Mr. AW G. Riddell, S.M.) POLICE CASES. The Magistrate's Court sat at 9 a.m. yesterday, when a number of police eases disposed of. Sydney Huxley and William Spindle wore charged jointly with using threatening behaviour, whereby a breach of the peace had been occasioned. Huxley pleaded guilty, and Spindle not guilty. After hearing the evidence against Spindle, the magistrate fined hini 20.?., with the alternative of .seven days' imprisonment. Huxley was lined 405., with the option of sevsn days' gaol. John Johnston pleaded guilty to a charge of being an idle and disorderly person, with, insufficient lawful means of support. According to the police report, accused, who had but recently been discharged from gaol, had been threatening to drown himself when arrested. Mr. Arnold, a visiting justice, appeared in court, and offered to pay Johnston's faro to th© country, and obtain him beard and lodging until he could get work. Accused was therefore convicted, and ordered to come up for sentence when called on. Thomas Holford, who had be*n arrested for drunkenness on Saturday night, damaged a ventilator in one of the cells at tho police station, and was charged with this additional offence in the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning. Accused pleaded guilty to both offences. On the charge of drunkenness, he was fined 55., with the alternative of 24 hours' imprisonment, find, on the other charge, he was fined 205., and ordered to make good the damage, 155., in default to undergo seven days imprisonment. Patrick Daly, charged with drunkenness, was fined 4Qs.» with the alternative of 14 days' imprisonment, a prohibition order to issue against him for one year. Aatc "Wilson, alias Hcthune, was fined 20s. i ( / r . un kemiess, tho default being seven days' imprisonment. A prohibition order was issued against her. Three first-offend-ing inebriates, who did not appear, were ordered to forfeit their bail (10s. each), or undergo 1 24 hours' imprisonment, lhree other first* offenders were convicted and discharged. A young man, named James Robertson C rowley, who pleaded guilty to a charge of indecency, was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment. A young man pleaded guilty to a charge of having wilfully damaged a glass door, valued at 30s', the property of William James Connor. The offence took place on Saturday night. Accused was fined 405., and ordered to pay 30s. for the damage done. Default was faxed at seven days' imprisonment. MOUNT COOK POLICE COURT. At the Mount Cook Police Court, before Mr. T. S. Lambert, J.P., John Mansfield pleaded guilt t v to a chargo of drunkenness, this being his seventy-first conviction. He was fined 405., or the alternative of one month's imprisonment. Frederick Kingham pleaded guilty to drunkcnncss. His recent convictions rendered him a habitual drunkard/' and ho was sentenced to two months in gaol. Walter James Howell, charged with insobriety, was fined 55., with the usual alternative. A first offender on bail, not was fined 10s. t the amount of his "bail.
