'' FOUR MAORIS DROWNED. THREE SISTERS AND A BOY. (By Telegraph,—Press Association.) Auckland, April 12. It is reported that four Maoris have heen drowned at Waikato Heads. There is no further information available at present. Later. . , Tho Maoris drowned were thre<i daughters of Hori Thompson, an old Tuakau resident, and a' boy aged fifteen. FIRE IN A PARSONAGE. A PERILOUS JUMP. Auckland, April 12. At 10.30 this morning a fire occurred in a three-story, house in Hopetoun Street, Newton, occupied by the Rev. W. Ready, Methodist minister. Mrs. Ready and a maid were in the house at tho time, aud Mrs. Ready was boiling beeswax over a stove in the kitchen. This flared up, and it is surmised that Mrs. Ready jumped from tho second story to the ground—about 20ft. She was found on tho ground unconscious- and suffering from slight burns on the face. Both ankles were severely hurt. Tho house is tho property of the Methodist Connection, and contained fourteen rooms. The interior was completely gutted. No furniture was saved; it was insured for <fi2oo in the New Zealand Office, which also held a policy over the house for .£BOO. Mrs. Heady will lie laid up for some considerable time.
