(From Our Special Correspondent.) Palmeraton N., April 7. Tho monthly meeting of tho College .Street School Committee was helci laijt evening, tliero being present: Messrs. T. It. Hodder (chairman), Gerrand, Stubbs, Spooner, Caville, and J. J. Whitehead. Tho number on tho roll was reported as -179, with an average attendance of <130. It was decided to inquire from theWanganiji Education' Board when tho furniture, desks, etc., ordered some time ago, might be expected. A circular from Mr. Braik, in reference to continuation classes, was held over for consideration by tin? incoming committee. It is reported that there is a dearth of navvies and general labourers in this district. . Tho Manawatu Drainago Board has been experiencing difficulty in obtaining sufficient men to carry out their works. Owing to many other counter attractions, tliero was only a small attendance at tho meeting of the Manawatu Amateur Boxing Club last night, and proceedings were adjourned. The report presented .by. tho secretary (Mr. G. Watchorn) stated that tho club had started with a membership of 150 but, unfortunately, tho number had decreased, and there were many subscriptions in arrear. The committeo recommends nioro general gymnasium work, aud tho purchase of an equipment for this purpose. The two "exhibition" nights had proved a great success, a;id it was hoped to hold many moro of these entertainments. Special thanks were duo' to Dr. O'Brien and Messrs. W. H. Hankins, I. J. Fake, and others for the assistance which they had given the club. , ' Miss Margaret Jamieson, who has been ordained a deaconess of tho Methodist Church, leaves on Good Friday to join the Papuan mission. Miss Jamieson will bo entertained by tho members of the congregation on Monday evening next. Tho Palmcrston district jury list was revised to-day. The new vicar of All Saints' Church (Rev. H. G. Eoscher), arrived hero yesterday. He was met at the railway station by the officers of tho Church and,, in tho evening, was instituted to the charge by tho Bishop of Wellington. Tho Bov. Charles Palmer was also instituted to. Shannon. Very fair entries have been received for the handicap events at the_ Manawatu and West Coast Caledonian Society's annual sports gathering on Easter Monday. For tho Caledonian Handicap (three distances) there are 86 entries while, for tho 100yds.,Handicap, over thirty sprinters have nominated. In tho other events the entries are proportionately numerous. In tho piping and dancing, contests, also, there will bo.good competition. Some time ago, at a meeting of. ratepayers,, a committee was set up.to take tho necessary steps to form a ltiver Board to cope with tho. incursions of the Manawatu River in the borough. As a preliminary step, a man was .put on to obtain signatures to'the necessary requisition .to have the board foniied, hut those, interested refused to sign oil tho ground that only a sriiall proportion of the borough, was included in tho proposed.rating area. At a'lfteeting, of the committee to-diiy,;it : was decided to report 'progress to, a 'meeting of ratepayers to be called by the Mayor. A meeting of the Manawatu A. and P. Association's Dairy Show Committee was held to-day. Present: Major Dunk (chairman), and Messrs. H. F. Gibbons, St. C. Jounneaux, W. M'Kenzie, and T. R. H9dder. Correspondence was read from the Ngaire Dairy Company intimating that the half-ton cheese had been manufactured, and that' £15 worth of coins had been distributed through it in tho presence "of' Messrs. W. Morrison (chairman, of the. company), T. H. Penn (secretary), and W. Grant (Dairy Instructor). The secretary of tho National Dairy Association wrote that Mr. J. Kyle (president of the Ayrshire Cattle Breeders' Association) would give an address at the Dairy Show oil "The Ayrshire Cow," and would provide several cows' with which to illustrate it. Mr. T. 11. Hodder consented to prepare a paper on "Providing Feed oil a Dairy Farm." and it was decided to securo a third paper on a kiridred subject. Tlio following judges • intimated their acceptance of office: —Mr. A-'S, Laird OYahgaitui), vegetables; Mr. A. G. Pilmer (Mastertoii), jumping events; Mr. T. W. Kirk (Wellington); natural history; Mr. J. E.' M-'Crassey. (Napier),' grass seeds and grain; Mr. R. E: Alexander (Lincoln College), iartii roots. The report of - the- - sub-committee' recohimending that tho following ' events should be added to the ring events was adopted :—Maiden,wood chopping, maiden saiving, pushball (horses), obstacle race.(lurses),.and' bendiiig corapetitior. Tho chairman reported that entries were coaling in most satisfactorily, and that neirly tho whole of the space was already taken up in the machinery hall.
