' ' ' ''' The appointment of two inspectors by the Wairrirapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to nttcml to the san.itary,requirements of the 29,000 people and fifft'on local bodies under the jurisdiction of the board, is thought to 133 in their work", and should do good serrice. A deputation waited upon the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday, and asked the board to administer a fund of .£370 which has been collected locally for the provision of district nurses. The board referred the matter to a sub-com-mittee for a report. Hockey promises <to be more popular than ever .in the Wairarapi I his sea-i-on. The annual meetings of several of the clubs have already been/ held, and arrangements made for the opening of the season. The salary of the matron of the Masterton Hospital (Miss Hayvard) has been increased from .£lOll to. -£123 per annum. Rust has made its appearance in some of the pastures in the Mastcrton district. The total amount to be provided by way of subsidy and levy for the maintenance of the hospital and charitable aid system in the Wairarapa lor the coming year is £57%. The' staff of the Masterton Borousn Council has undergone an almost complete change during the last few weeks. The town clerk and engineer (Mr. Mansfield) has been appointed to Wangamn. One of the assistants (Mr. Lamb) has been appointed assistant town clerk at Danncvirke. The inspector of nuisances (Sir. Cairns) has been appointed an inspector under tho Hosnital and Charitable Aid Board, and the "assistant clerk (ilr. Lane) died in the hosnital last nicht. Tho new council will have a strenuous year before Funds are comiiiß in freely for the extension of St. Matthew's vicarage. The last contribution is .£25 from Jlr. H. H. Beetham. In the Magistrate's Court this mornins J.. Georgeson, insnector of factories, proceeded against F." Holloway, butcher, for having employed a boy to deliver goods on Saturday, contrary to the provisions of Section G of the award. A penalty of £1 was imposed. A case was heard in the Magistrate's Court this morning in which John Fraser, land agent, claimed £35 from M*. L. Cruickshank, land agent, for fees alleged to be. duo in connection with the subdivision of tho Castlepoint Estate. After hearing evidence, Mr. Reid, S.M., nonsuited the plaintiff, with costs. Mr. J. W. Deem, an Inspector of the Stock Division of the Agricultural Department, is at present a visitor to Masterton. In the Magistrate's Court this mornins judgment by default was given for plaintiffs in the following civil eases:—H. T. Wood v. i'red.
