LIVE STOCK SALES.
Messrs. Williams and Kettle report having held a, very successful sale of draught horses, on behalf of Mr. A. B. Knight, at Tahoraiti, on Thursday. There was a good attendance of buyers from all parts of the island, including Australian buyers, and bidding was keen from the beginning of the ' sale. Good heavy broken horses and brood marcs were mostly in demand. The broken horses made from £28 to £55; brood marcs, £15 to £20 10s.; unbroken fillies, £22 10s. to £30; unbroken colts. £25 to £39. — The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report: At our Pahautanili. sale on ' Monday wo yarded just, on ICOO sheep, all of which changed hands except two small lots. -.' BAM AND EWE FAIR. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Dunadin, April 4. lne annual ram and ewe fair was held at Burnside to-day. The number of sheep forward .was 1446, a?, against 866 last year. Border Leicester'flock-rams (93fi and ttomncy Marsh flock rams (209) represented the major portion of the entry. It had been anticipated that rams would bo selling pretty cheaply, and buyers appeared determined to fill requirements at low limits. Prices for Border Leicestero were from 25 to £0 per cent, lower than last yea/. There was moro life in the Komney ecction of the sale. ' About 20CO Eomncvs were shipped to the North Island from Otaga and Southland earlier in the season, and a. shortage was expected. Animals that wero well bred and in good condition sold quite np to last year's rates, (lock rams bringing up to 52 guineas. Corriedales were in .short supply, and there was fair demand, especially for young well-bred sheen. With the exception of one line from Kakaia. however, most of the Corricdales forward wero of nondescript order. Sheep from Eakaia, brought 4 guineas each. ShrOpshires were a poor lot, and most of them sold for boiling down. The highest prices realised at. the sale were 155 guineas for a Border Leicester prize ram, and 10 guineas for a Romney ram
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Invercargill, April 4. The- annual ram and cito fair at Wallacetown attracted 1500 entries as against 800 last. year. The supply exceeded the demand, but stud sheep, Eomncys especially, sold well. Two rams, owned by Mr. T. L. Barnhill, realised 35 guineas and 18\ guineas respectively. Flock sheep showed a drop in price, owing to over supply. A stock fair in aid of the new show ground building fund realised * considerably over "£2CO.
