Health—called 'to-, gethcr to discuss the question of the extermination of rats in Knglanil, Sir James Ci'ichton-Browiio said that experiments hail shown that each rat consumed grain or'did other damage to the extent of a farthing a day. Tho calculation was that there was one rat to every acre in England and Wale?, and if that worn so the agricultural loss due to rats wns •£15,000,000 a year. If the rat wore exterminated we might reduce our importation of grain to the value of .some millions per annum. It was a wonder so ruinous a pcourgo should have boon tolerated to long, and they were justified in looking forward to Ugtalation. A campaign against rats lias been started,
