The sound of football kicking at the Athletic Park on Saturday, while proclaiming that the football season had begun, also sounded the knell of this season's cricket, which was officially closed on Saturday, March 25. On Saturday only a few house matches were played. A team representing the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Aiseiicy Co. played a team representing Dalgoty and Co., at tlio Hutt on Saturday, and won by an innings and HI runs. The Loan and Mercantile team mndo 164 vans, Hutchiugs 58, Muldoon 40, anil Bitchio being tuo best scorers, whilo Dnlgety's replied with 18. In their second attempt Dalgcty's team was more successful, compiling 116. Atmoi'G -59 not out, Jameson 30, and Hannay 18 were the principal run-getters. Bay, Ritchie, and Capper bowled best for the winners, nnd Atmore and Jameson for the losers. A very exciting- match between Hutt soniovs and juniors resulted in a win for the juniors by A runs. Seniors mndo 163 (Isherwood 52. Staples 3G). Juniors IG7 (Pringle'27, Brown 27, 'Alsop 25, Harris--20, and Borland 17). Priugle and Harris, for juniors, and G. P. Judd and Eickson, for seniors, bowled best. A team representing the Wellington Harbour Board employees played a match against a Vacuum Oil Co. team, on the Diippa Street Reserve on Saturday, .and secured a rather easy victory in the first innings. The Harbour Board's eleven mado 189, and the Vacuum Oil Company's representatives were'all out for 39. in enjoyable match was played at Duppa Street' Park on Saturday, between tho city and Island Bay members of tho C. and A. After a very exciting finish in the match, Petone. v. Johnsonville, Petone won by 37 runs. Both teams in the second "innings made poor scores. The match between St. Albans and Sydenham, to decide the senior championship, was resumed to-day, and attracted a large number of onlookers. On the previous Saturday St. Albans mado 2G2 runs for eight wickets, and' to-day declared their innings closed without batting. Sydenham replied with 213 (Taylor 48. Patrick 37.
