Despite the protest of the French instructors to tho Moroccan army, the Sultan sent out a thousand untrained troops with two guns against the rebellious Berber tribesmen, who recently defeated two detachment of troops. Tl'e whole force was seized with panic, and retreated after many men had been killed and wounded. Fez is now isolated.
