. 9 , THE NAVY AND THE FUTURE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, April 1. Mr. J. C. Watson, formerly leader of the Labour Party, in speaking at the reception to. the Australian destroyers, said there were bright prospects for universal peace among the European nations, but there were no such prospects as far as tlie* Eastern races were concerned. The latter were beginning to feel that they could demand concessions which Australia could never grant with honour. Australia, added Mr. Watson, should speak not in a spirit of defiance, but in a spirit of cold determination.
