SOUTH ISLAND TRUNK LINE.
STATEMENT.'BY' THE HON R. M'KENZIE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, April 2. The Hon. R. M'Konzie on Friday went over tho route of (lie South Island Main Trunk railway north of tho Waiau Bridgo as far as Mendip Hills. Thn Minister states that there is no special difficulty in construction between tho present southern terminus and the Mendip Hills, nor for some miles beyond. He exprosssd the opinion that probably the line would be completed as 'far as Parnassus to enable the carriage of goods by the time the next wool clip was ready, and certainly before next harvest. Plate-laying on a portion of (he lino between Mina and the southern end of tho bridge would bo started within six weeks. The Minister leaves for Wellington tomorrow evening.
