The Victoria' League's New Branch. A little while ago Mrs.. Corliss suggested the idea of forming a girls' branch of the Victoria League, and the idea lias been taken up with some enthusiasm. On Saturday the first meeting of the newly-formed branch was held in tho Pioneer Club rooms, and a large number of girls were present.. Mrs. Corliss addressed them on the subject of things which they could do in connection with tho league, and Mrs. Chath'eld referred generally to its work and objects. Miss Richmond spuke of tho advantages which would be obtained by a study of general history, and Miss Butts promised to give a lecturette on present history on Monday week. Mrs. Corliss was unanimously elected the president of tho newly-formed branch, while Miss Heleu Knox was appointed secretary, and Miss Helen Clegliorne treasurer. The secretary will be glad to hear of other girls who would like to become member). • Tea at the Hutt. Miss Marion Barraud was the guest of honour at a pleasant tea given by Mrs. Adams, Bollevue Road, the Hutt, on Friday- afternoon. Among those present were Mrs. Kempthorne, Miss Higgie (Wellington), Miss Kingden (Wellington), Mrs. B. Adams, Mrs. C. Allan, Miss Didsbury (Wellington), Miss Kathbone, Miss.Jones, Mrs. Mirams, Miss Rathbone, Miss Barraud, Mrs. Joliffe, , Miss Mathers, Miss Parsons, Miss '.Wilson, Miss IToster, ■ and Miss Buswell. The playing of Mrs. H. H. Ostler and . Miss Cutf was very-much appreciated, as were tho songs sung- .by the Misses Parsons, Yeats, Wilson, and Eatlibone. Mrs. Joliffe also recited very charmingly. ■ . •• Miss Diddams {Greytown) is tho guest of Mrs. Holms. Mrs. Robert Duncan and Miss Duncan were passengers by the Marama for, Sydney. Miss-Vida Kennedy's wedding is to take place on April 27. Miss S. Jackson (Stonestead) and her sister have been spending a few days in Wellington. — -. r. Miss Nicholls is the guest of Mrs. T. W: Yoting. '■■''■.■ Dr. Elizabeth Mac Donald leaves for Scotland very shortly. ' Miss Butterworth, from Dunedin, is in town, and leaves for England on Thursday.. , ... : ■ Mrs. Gale armed from Dunedin at the end of last week, and is visiting friends in Wellington. The wedding was celebrated on Wednesday last at Fongaroa of Miss Edith Eleanor Meoch lo Mr. William J. M'Donald. Tho bride was the fourth daughter of Mr. Augustus Meech. and the bridegroom the eldest son of Mr. James M'Donnld. . . . Tho Freo Kindergarten Council cordially invites-all child-lovers to attend their annual meeting at the Engineers' Institute on Friday. Miss Coats has kindly consented to preside. Mrs. T. H. Gill, president of tho Free Kindergarten Union, will deliver an address on tho free kindergartens of Melbourne and Sydney. Mr., Mrs., and Miss Harvie, of; Devonport, Auckland, who have been _ in AVeliington for a few days, after having spent a pleasant holiday in the Cold Lakes District, leave for Auckland by tho express train this morning.
