The Autumn meeting of the Maha watu Racing Club will be held, on th< Awapuni racecourse, Palmerston North on April 5 ami 6. The trotting horso Mandarene, afto being in the south since last November was ' taken back to Auckland by tlv Monowai on Sunday, and has gone inti W. Grange's charge. Mandarene is en gaged at the Auckland Trotting Club' autumn mooting, which opens at Taka puna to-day. M. Ryan is to ride Tattoo in ,th A.11.C. Easter Handicap. The vetorai has already ridden the winner of thi event on two occasions—Nonotte ii 1902, and Scotty in 1005. Red Lupin has been scratched fo the Pony Race at the Auckland Trot ting Club's meeting to-day. The stylish-looking Sonite is _ stil working at Trontham, but so far his es says have been trotting only. This combined with the fact that ho is no nominated, suggests that there is stil a "screw loose" with him. Nominations for tlio Marlborougl Racing Club's autumn meeting will b received up till April 15. The Wanganui sportsman, Mr. R Narclle, was a visitor to Wcllingtoi yesterday. Ho returns homo by th Auckland express to-day. Tlio southern light-weight C. Fmuioi son was unable to accept tho mo:'.'i on Flying Soult in tho Easter Handi cap, at Auckland, owing to riding en gagoments elsewhere. Mr. V. Ross, owner of Salute r.ui King Soult, leaves on a trip lo tn Old Country this month. Tho Hutt trainer, P. Higgott, is taj; ing Aimwcll to Awapuni on Tuesday and, while there, he will look round witl a view to purchasing a stable. Antoinette is going' on the right wa; at Ellorslie, and on Tuesday mornini was responsible for a taking seven fur longs on the rr.rass, in company witl Santa Rosa. Antoinette is now a gooi favourite for the Easter Handicap, ii which event she will be ridden by C Brown. The Chokcborc horses, which aro-to •ace at Awapuni, aro expected to ar•ivo from the south tin's morning, and ,vill proceed north by tho slow train at ).25 a.m. Writing to J. IT. I'rosscr regarding .ho prospects of Lady Medallist at '{andwiek, J<\ M'Grath voices the opinon tliat the local mare will ho agamst i difficult proposition, and ho thinks :hat Comedy King is .is good as over L'arbino was. Inter alia, lie says "it ivas a treat to watch the way in.which 10 doubled up tho opposition in tho All Aged Stakes, which ho won in two strides when he was asked to go by 'Mac' " (presumably M'Laehlan). AV. Price will in future, when possible, do all the riding for the Stead Brothers. This will mean that ho wili have to miss the Feilding meeting and bo present at Hiocarton. He is also engaged to ride Kopu in tho Great Autumn Handicap. Tho programme of the Wanganui Jockey Club's winter meeting, to bo held on May 24 and 25, appears in this issue.
