LABOUR RETURNS.
HOW LABOUR SHEETS SHOULD BE FILLED IN. We aro informed by the secretary of tho Wellington Employers' Association that tho Labour Department's requirements will bo satislied if tho wagessheets issued are filled in in tho following manner: — After filling in tho name, nature of work done, by each employee, etc., at the liead of tho form all hands may bo shown by making merely ono entry for the whole period employed—thus: "employed during tho whole year at £3 10s.. per week, total £182," or "employed' from April 1 to June -30 at £3 10s. per week; and from October 1 to end of March at £3 ss. per week." In tho case of piece-workers, a similar entry may bo made so long as a normal full week's earnings aro shown in the place provided for the purpose in the heading of the form, and that the periods of employment and the total wages are also shown thus: "from June 30 to September 30, total wages £05, and from October 5 to January 7, total wages £49." From the information given in this way wo will bo able to show what is desired, viz:— (a) What the worker is able to earn for a full ordinary week (say £4 10s. per week). (b) What ho actually earns in the long run over the period employed (say, an average of £2 10s. per week for eight months). (c) Tho total wages paid in the industry during tho whole year, and so on. Casual workers, i.e., thoso employed for less' than ono month in all during the year, can be lumped together on the special form printed for the purpose.
