HOTELS REGISTER AS SHOPS. Hotels and restaurants being included under the provisions of tho Shops and Offices Amendment Act of last session, their registration; as in the case of shops, becomes necessary to-day. It is also necessary under (his Act for certain returns to bo eont in, including tho number of employees on the premises. No exemption in relation to any class of employee is made in regard to hotels and restaurants. Wages books have also to be kept, under this Act, though previously hotels have had to do this under tho awards of tho Arbitration Court. Immediately a place of business comes under an award it is necessary that a wages book ho No registration fee is charged under tho Act. It is just a matter of sending in a form which has already been circulated. Only in the case of the registration of factories is a fee charged. Wholesale houses arc not affected bv tho Act, unless they combino tho retail trade also. Yesterday tho Labour Department officers were extremely busy receiving the registration of factories, shops, and hotels.
