HOCKEY.

W: THE PAKEHA CLUB. .The following is the essential portion of the report "of the Takeha Hockey Club, which was submitted at.its annual meeting':—During, tho year tho hon. treasurer received.the sum of .£5-6s. 6d., and disbursed .the sum of £H IDs. It is gratifying'to know that the club was again successful in winning the competition for 1910. Members played 12 matches, won 8, lost 2, drew 2, the total number of points scored being 18. Th* club is now entitled to hold tho White Competition Cup for one., year. This 'is the third occasion that the oup has been won by thoPakeba Club: . At, tho .conclusion of last season's inaugurated a fi.ve-a-side competition. Ten teams took part in.the competition, and after some very 'hard-fought matches, ..the Pakchas were . victorious in beating all comers. This is-the second occasion, that the club has w;on this competition. Mr. M'Eldowney, club captain, is to be congratulated for his' good work, and tiie success which his tfams have achieved. A representative match was played at Palmerston' North during the season, and resulted in a win for Wellington. Messrs. Haaseand Grncie, of the PakehaClub, were selected by the association, and put up a good performance. It is to be regretted that, since the formation of tho club, many valuable members have left the district, the two last to take their departure being Messrs. G. Hayes and F. Harrup, two good players, and very popular. However, two very old players, who are once again. resident in Wellington— Mr.' J. Smith, the first club captain, and Mr. P. Paget—have decided to play this season, and their co-oner'ation will strengthen the. club considerably. ' So far,., the club has nothing to be afraid of. A. full team is .now ready to commence plsy. and, judging by. past performances, players should have a' good record at the end of the season.
