BUSH AND GRASS FIRES.

RAIN BADLY WANTED. Mr. H. T, Ellingham, a member of thi Wellington Land Board, who lives at Horoska, states that last week fierce bush and grass fires were raging over hia and neighbouring properties. A big firo also was burning along the Waihi Valley, which is eastward of Dannevirkc. Tho coach on Friday night could not get through from Makuri to Pongaroa on account of fires. Water is getting very scarce in that part of tho country, and if rain docs not fall very shortly a serious state of affairs will have to bo faced. At Coonoor (near Makuri) firer are also raging.
