A shocking fatality- occurred about nine miles this side of To Wharau this after-, noon. Two men, named Albert Nicholson and R. .T. Douglas, were driving from Jlasterton in a brake loaded with wire, and when descending a hill were precipitated over the embankment. Nicholson,. who is married, with three children, iivihg'at Cb.reville, was killed outright, and Douglas, who is a son of Jfr. Andrew Douglas, was seriously injured. Constable Bird and Dr. Cook have left in a motorcar for tho scene of the accident. SCHOOLGIRL'S SUDDEN DEATH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, March 30! A twelve-year-old girl named Bessio Watson died suddenly when playing in the West Christchurch School playground yesterday afternoon. She had been romping with other girls for some time. At the inquest this morning the medical evidence showed that heart trouble was responsible for the fatality. A STRANGE COINCIDENCE. I nvercargill, March 30. The death has occurred of Mr. Wm. John Moffett, one of the pioneer residents in Southland. Ho arrived in 1861, and died, by a strange coincidence, while Southland's Jubilee is being celebrated "ov massed bands. The deceased was 74 years old. WELLINGTON MAN KILLED. Auckland, March 30. Peter. He had evidently fallen from a high cliff, Ho was alive when fcuud,, but died shortly after. Hill was a married man with a wife and family in Wellington, whence he arrived three weeks ago. EARTHFALL IN BALLAST PIT. Te Kuiti, March 29. While working in a railway ballast pit at Lake Road Station, near Ohaupo, last evening, two men, George Larnie, aged 25, and A. Whisker, aged 34, wero killed by a fall of earth. A third man, Charles Davidson, was injured. All the men wero unmarried. A Hamilton Press Association telegram states that Larnie was killed outright, arid Whisker died a few hours after being admitted to tho Hospital. Davidson's condition is critical. HORSE HOOFS ON THE WHARF. While some forty horses were being put on board the Ulimaroa yesterday one ahimnl, more frightened than tho others, reared up and struck a roan named Stephen Mornhet in the chest with its foro hoofs, felling him to tho ground. The hc-ofs also caught his face, and n rather . severe wound was inflicted. After a rest and attention, Morphet was able to pro«wd to bis home in Courtenay Place.
