; WELLINGTON CLUB. . . The thirteenth annual report and baljmcershest of the Wellington Hockey Club, to be presented at tho annual general meeting to be held at the Y.M.C.A. rooms on Wednesday, at 8 p.m., states that tho membership roll still continues satisfactory, there being 1 life members, 1 honorary, and 41 active members, but owing to various causes there will 'bo numerous vacancies in tho ranks this-season, and the committee would like to.see members do their utmost to fill tho gaps before the matches commencc; Tho resignations include several of the oldest members of tho club, amongst whom is Mr'. K. Price, of whose services in/coaching the younger members of the club tho committee would like to' place on record an appreciation. Tho financial position of the. club is' again highly satisfactory, there being a balance 6f .£ls 17s. 3d. in the bank, and a large amount yet to como in,of. outstanding subscriptions. The committee'again regrets that, tho playing record ■ for ■ the season is not lip to past standards, but judging by last year's performances there is-'eVcry''reason fbr ,>: 'a'j hopeful outlook for the present year. Owing to the numerous Saturdays taken up I by'.ihield matches and trial pames, the 'j senior'. games - suffered in ' ; consequence; with the result that the senior team played only_B matches, winning 1, drawing *4, and losing 3; goals for 10, against 19. It is satisfactory to note that in one match oiily Were more than. 2 goals registered aghinsttho club. But against this the club's own tally never, exceeded 2. ' It is to bo hoped that this season's senior team will' be "able to show n moro productivo record. The junior team put up a fine rccord: though it was unable to reach the top. Their record reads—Matches played 11, won ,7. drawn 1, lost 3. Goals for 40, against 22. The third team was mostly composed of new players, and was in several matches, unfortunately, shorthanded. Owing to no official record having been. kept, the position tho team occupied is unable to be ascertained, but it is satisfactory to note that the team kept .up. ifa.good record, by losing very few matches, though several were drawn. The following players aro to be congratulated ut>on gainfng representntivo honours, and thus assisting Wellington to retain tho shield, viz., Messrs. Morpeth, Harty, and Smythe.: Messrs. Shuley, Tewsley, and Gill gained places in the junior representative team. The thanks of tho club aro due to Messrs. J. H. B. Coatcs, R. G. Read, and E. D. Bell for donations, and to Mr. Shuley for material. Tho annual match with the Carterton Hockey Club Was,this year played at Carterton, but as tho club were only able to get two very scratch teams, away, they suffered defeat in-both games. It is very gratifying to the club that one of its members, Mr. Walton, should have been aonoiuted sole Fftlector for Wellington, and," moreover, that his policy of introducing new blood into the representative teams should have been so eminently successful. The club extends its congratulations to the Wellington Hockey Association for its unbeaten record in representative matches, blit it is to be hoped that this season arrangements will be mode whereby cun games will not bo interfered with to such fin extent as last. One of our former captains. Mr. R. A. Brewer, now occunies a prominent position in Hawke's Bay hockey. In conclusion, the . committc'o would urge upon members the necessity of nri early start in training and practice, nnd a hearty co-operation in. all that -oertains.to the welfare of the club, as it is by thes» means alone that the club can regain its former position at tho top.
