THE ASSOCIATION GAME.
REFEREES' ANNUAL MEETING. The sixteenth annual meeting oi tho Wellington Referees' Association ("Soccer") was held in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms yesterday evening, Mr. C. E. ■ Fordham presiding. Tho adoptidn of tho report and balance-sheet (a. precis of which has been published) was agreed to. without,discussion. ■ Tile chairman, in calling for nominations for new members, informed, the meeting that last year tho association had supplied referees for 450 matches, or an average ■of about 3!) each Saturday. Ihe following nominations were received:— Rev. Bro. Mutter, A. 0. Barry, H. Roberts, C. E.. Vessey, C. B. Melville, T/E;'Reynolds, T. Thorley, H. * AV. ■Jackson, J. Bates, C. Webster, h. hltoft, Lithgow, and J. M. Wilson. The election of officers resulted as under-.—President, Mr. C. . E. .Fordham (re-elected); vioe-presidents, Messrs. B. L. Salmon (re-elected) ■ and J. B. Paton; Management Committee, Messrs. AA T . 10. Wells, H. Yeoman.;, H. Godber, and H. Waters; lion, secretary, Mr. A. F. Newbo>d (re-elected); hon. treasurer, Mr. S. F.M'Lean; hon. auditor, Mr. A. G. Barnett; Appointments Committee, Messrs. B. L. Salmon, H. Godber, and A. Newbold;. Examination Committee, Messrs. C. E. Fordham, B. L. Salmon, H. Ycomans, and J. Paton; delegate to New Zealand Referees' Association, Mr. W. E. Wells. It was decided to hold a smoke concert in May, in order to bring players and referees together. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. M'Le'as, Webster, Newbold, Mayer, and Godber, was set up to.:make the necessary arrangements. One member wroto asking if it was true that it had been ruled.jby the Wellington Football Association that a coach of a l ' boys' team could not act as referee. It was stated that no such decision had been; arrived at by the Football Association. ■It was decided to hold the fortnightly meetings of • the association on alternate Tuesdays. Mr. M'Lean moved that no member of the association bo allowed-to .write any letters to the press without the authority of-the association.' ;The chairman said he was in sympathy with the mover to .a certain extent, but he failed to see how they could enforce Bitch,'a rule under tho constitution of the association.
