(From Our Special Correspondents.) * MASTERTON. A sitting of the Magistrate's Court Was held yesterday bul'oro Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M. Harry Colo was charged with having left a vehicle .unattended. 'J'lio solicitor for the defence stated that accused had left his vehicle unattended for a fen- minutes, and another horse, near 'by, had bolted, thereby frightening accused's horse, which also niado oli'. Accuscd was fined 55., and 7s. costs. _ William Corlctt was charged with driving a vehicle without a light between tlio hours of sunset ai;d sunrise. A fine of 10s. and ccstn was imposed. 'William Redmond was charged with having ridden a bicycle in tlio; borough between the boors of sunset and' sunrise, without a light. A fine of 10s,, and costs 75., was imposed. Mr. J. Gcorgeson, Inspector of Factories, charged Wong Way lvce, under section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, with .having kept bis shop open after closing hours. Accused pleaded guilty, and a lino of ss. and 7s. costs was imposed. Sam' Wall was charged with keeping his shop open on the statutory halfholiday. Accused was a fruiterer, but it was proved that ho had been in tho habit of keeping tobacco, tinned fruit, and Chinese crackers in stock. ■ Ho had been warned -several times. Tlio magistrate imposed a fine of 10s., witlri costs 17s. Herbert Jones, Mastorton, was charged with having driven a motnr-car in Queen Street without. hav-; ing a mark affixed, in accordance with section 16. of tho Motor Regulations Act, 1908. A fine of 55., with costs 7b., was imposed. A number of charges of breaches of tho Licensing Act were beard in • the Magistrate's Court yesterday. John Brown, for giving an rrdor for liquor without giving the name and address of tho person for whom it was intended, and for delivering liquor in a No-Licenso area, having no reasonable grounds to suspect that it was for sale, was fined £10, and £1 costs. Richard Haviland, for keeping liquor for sale ill a NoJjicenss area, was sentenced to three months' hard labour. This was his third conviction. Several other eases were either adjourned or dismissed.
FEATHERSTON. The covering of the water-races on ihc road between Foatherston and Greytown is now completed, with tho exception of 0110 in tlio Greytown Borough. A further work to bo undertaken by tlio Foatherston County Council shortly is tlio improvement of some of the bends 011 the Rimutaka Road. Fillings will bo put in where they are necessary. At the bowling green 011 Thursday, in. tlio sccond round of the fours competition, the Rev. Stowoll, Holms, Tocker, Bungay (s.), defeated Cundy, Baker, Henderson, Evcrton (s.), by 25 poiuta to 20.
SHANNON. This district is badly in need of rain. Just enough has fallen lately to freshen up the grass and foliage, but tlio supply of water for domestic purposes is very low. 011 tlio bowling green 011 Wednesday, afternoon two local rinks played two rinks from the Foxton Club.' 'ITjo following were the results, the visitors bcmentioned first in each instance: — Spiers, Henessy, Spring, Clemett (s.), 15; Esson, lvnowles, E. B. Stephenson, Gunning (s.), 27. Whibley, Walker, Littlejohn, and Henessy (s.), 25; Roach, Clayton, Oleson, and G. V. Stephenson (s.), 19. 111 a .match" between 'local rinks the result wai.:—Gibsoil, Hansen, Hopper, and T. Lind (s.), 18; Mrs. Barclay; Hensman, Roos, and Mitchell (s.), 11. The. ladies of the Tennis and Bowling Clubs provided refreshments, Mrs. Mitchell and Miss Wickliffe superintending.
